HTML

Overview

Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) is the basic programming language for creating websites. An Internet browser translates HTML tags into the content that you see when you surf the Internet. Through HTML, you determine what text appears, where it should appear, and how it should be formatted. You can also specify your background, colors, and images. You can use JavaScript to make your website more interactive. You can use Active Server Pages (ASP) and Hypertext Preprocessor to make your web pages more attractive. You can use web design programs to create HTML for you. You do not need to know HTML to create an informative, basic, and aesthetically pleasing website. In any case, knowledge of HTML can help you with sophisticated and complex projects. These programs cost anywhere from $0 to $400.

Benefits

Knowledge of HTML allows you to understand how your website works. You can create and customize websites exactly how you want them, and you are better equipped to troubleshoot problems. You can also design a more sophisticated page with forms, links, and surveys. You will have greater control over formatting, layout, color, fonts, graphics, and branding.

How It Works

To write HTML, all you need is a computer and web browser. You may choose to work in an HTML program. The basic HTML building block contains an attribute and content. For example, if you want to create a bold word, the word will be the content, and the bold style will be the attribute. With HTML, you can also specify line breaks and closing tags. Combined with JavaScript, ASP, and PHP, HTML is more interactive. Dynamic HTML (DHTML) combines CSS and HTML to provide a faster means of designing a website.

Companies/Brands

Almost all web design companies use HTML. IO Vista and Plasma Computing Group are major US web designers who use HTML. The Web Design Group provides resources to explain HTML tools.

I have an open office 3.1 spreadsheet file that I wrap to get all the columns on one page and that I save as an html file. When I use file zilla to transfer the html file to my blog, it shows up in the blog unwrapped! What am I doing wrong?
