Overview

The frameworks and architecture that organize servers and related hardware are known as racks or rack mounted servers. Server racks are used by businesses who want to store their network or web server offsite.

Server racks come in four post or two post designs so that the server can be mounted on two or four vertical upright racks. Some servers come with an indicator light that will flash when there is a problem.

The cost of a server rack varies based on the brand and size. If you are looking to reduce costs, you can custom build your own racks.

Benefits

Server racks can help you organize and connect your network components. You can maintain a primary and secondary server so that you will always have a backup in the event of an emergency.

Server racks protect your hardware. Servers cannot fall out of bays and become damaged. Some server racks even have locking bars. Racks also keep temperature stable. Server racks are small and use less floor space than other configurations. Enclosures have doors for ventilation and channels for cable connections. You can remove sides easily for quick and efficient servicing.

Servers from different manufactures can be stored and run together. Your data storage and sharing needs will be easily fulfilled.

How It Works

Choose a rack based on your business's requirements and hardware needs. Rack servers use two types of cooling systems. You can choose from air conditioned cabinets or a standalone cooling system for the server.

Server racks come with additional storage components. Slide out trays are used for keyboards, LCD monitors, and keyboard video mouse switches. Some racks have special enclosures and backplanes for advanced hardware placement.

When you a buy a rack you need to know where to place it. This is important as in future it will help you during maintenance. You should be able to access the server easily from the rack. Therefore the server should be put on the front side of the rack while cables can be placed at the rear.
