Backup Types
Overview
Backups allow you to save important data and files in a secure location. You can save multiple copies of your files on your hard drive, on a different system, on the server, or in a remote location. You can save full backups, incremental backups, copy backups, daily backups, and differential backups.
The cost of backing up your data will vary by your method and type of data. Using a USB device for data backup is inexpensive compared to remote site backups, which can be very costly. Backup prices will also vary by who provides the service.
Benefits
Whether it is business or an organization, data enables a company to operate. Loss of data could lead to huge problems for any organization. Keep your business safe by storing an extra copy of important files and documents in a safe place. Creating a backup also ensures security for your vital data. When you lose data due to system crash, fire, tornado, earthquake, or an accident, you will be happy to have your spare files. Creating a secure backup of essential data also protects your business from hackers.
How It Works
Data backups can be done onsite and offsite. Onsite data backup is done by using a USB key, flash drive, compact disk, or memory stick. Offsite data backup is done in a remote location. There are many companies that provide backup services to businesses. Backups should be done on a regular basis, which can be daily, weekly, or monthly. You can create a backup manually or automate your system to do it at particular intervals. In a normal backup plan, selected files and folders are backed up. Though this process takes a long time, it is very easy to retrieve files when required. With offsite backups, all of your data is saved in one location.
Incremental data backup is the fastest type of data backup. This type of backup creates a copy of the files that have been changed or modified since the last backup was taken. Differential backup is the same as incremental backup. It saves a copy of all the files that were created or modified after the last data backup. A copy backup is another type of backup. In this method, the archive attributes of the files are not cleared when this option is selected.
Companies/Brands
There are many companies that provide data backup devices, software, and services. Backup companies can be open source or proprietary. Some of the open source backup companies are Amanda, Areca Backup, and softonic. Acronis, Unitrends, and Altexa are offer proprietary backup services.
